Birkbeck’s School of Science in London will be holding its annual Science Week next week — a public festival of talks and events to celebrate the institution’s scientific community and achievements.

Running from 11th to 14th April, there will be talks every day on topics ranging from computational modelling in biology to the ongoing search for extra-terrestrial life in the universe. Exclusive lab tours will take you behind the scenes with the scientists, and you won’t want to miss the special screening of Life Story: The Race for the Double Helix in the Birkbeck Cinema.

On Wednesday there will be a panel discussion with a focus on women in science — an inspirational chance to hear women researchers from Birkbeck sharing stories about their own journeys of research and discovery.

One of the highlights of the week will the be first Rosalind Franklin Lecture on Wednesday evening, when biochemist Professor Elspeth Garman from Oxford University will explore the contribution of crystallography to science and medicine. Akkadium will be there, so look out for our report next week in the Explorer section.
